Capturing every quirk and whisker in a unique painting.
Commissioning a painting is much easier than you may think, but if it’s something that you haven’t done before its perfectly normal to be hesitant. I want you to be at ease with your decision and the process. Put simply you are providing me with a photo of your pet that I then use to make a painting. Here are some other things to consider to make it an easier process.
Deciding if I am the right person to work with you is a personal choice and seeking reassurance from others is something I would encourage you to do. My website contains many testimonials from previous customers as well as the many images on social media that I have shared. Both Instagram and facebook are a work diary. You will learn about how I work, who I am and be able to view previous works, exhibitions and events that I have taken part in. I am also on LinkedIn.
1. The first thing you need to decide is your budget. There are options from £55 upwards. If the amount sounds a lot then it is easily broken down into amounts. A deposit is required to book your place which would be 20% of the cost. The rest to be paid before delivery, but that can be broken down into a payment plan. A unique and original portrait is as priceless as your fur baby themselves and a lasting reminder of the relationship you have had with them.
2. You may have an image in mind or be undecided. I always ask for a number of photos to work from so I can help make suggestions of which would work best in terms of poses. If you are able to take some new photos ,then have a blog to help you with this including a very easy top tip for perfect photos.
If it’s a memorial painting, I know photos can be limited but that’s where having owned dogs, cats, horses and rabbits myself means that I understand their anatomy and will do additional research for you to get the best likeness possible. Memorial portraits are sad but very special to me– it’s a privilege to be asked to paint them for you. Combining pets who never met can give great comfort to the owner and helps to remember the amazing moments we share with them.
3. When you have your budget and photo in mind, we can then look at size and surface. I will work with you to get the best option for the best painting! If you have more than one pet to do you can even combine them in the same painting. If you would like to have a music background, I will ask for some words to describe your dog’s character and their likes, as well as what they mean to you. This helps me to choose a piece of music that is “Just right”
4. We can communicate any way you choose, that might be by email, phone, WhatsApp or messenger. Whatever makes you feel most at ease. I know for some people email is their preferred means whereas others might like messenger. Staying in touch means I can send you notice of when I have started your painting and I will send a couple of progress photos if that is something you would like. Some people prefer to have the surprise at the end.
5. Full payment and postage are paid before I send the work or deliver it, but it is always possible to do this in instalments. Your painting will be sent in secure packaging which is recycled where possible , as sustainable practices are important to me. If you have a particular event this is needed for then do let me know when booking and I will do everything I can to have it ready in excellent time. I’ll choose the most suitable and safe method for where in the world you live.
6. Would you love a painting but not sure where it would go? Talk to me about which room you would like to have it in, your study? A family space? Your bedroom? The painting can be as small or as large as budget and space allows. A smaller work can be perfect for a frame to stand on a bookcase or sideboard. If you have a strong theme to a room this is where advice on framing can come in very useful. Will it be to match others? Or be distinctive.
